What have I done?

Okay, I ran across this lazy-susan type spice rack thingy at the thrift shop several months ago. It came with only two bottles and it was a dingy brown- colored spinning rack. I guess I really should have taken before and after pictures!! Why did I buy this? I picked it up strictly for the use of the jars. Originally, they were going to be "faireum" jars, but ended up being just too small for me to use in the class. Hmmmm, whatever did I do today??? Here are 3 silly photos of the semi-finished product. For the last few weeks, I've been thinking of a way to re-use this... I'm not really sure what to make of this yet... I stamped a phrase around the top of the "wheel" that says~ "Why, yes!!! i DO Collect Fairies!!! Don't YOU????" Inside of the jars - my collection of itty-bitty fairies (so far). I made one of the jars the keeper of a fairy flamingo, another has a tiny clown fairy with wings and it's sporting a crown (of course). The other~~ a fairy that's trying to escape out of it's hole in the top of the jar! (this jar was an extra one that I found to fit the rack~ minus a lid.) Eeek! I left the lid off!! How ever will I catch her again? I'm hoping to add to my collection as I find more bottles of similar sizes. Oh, and did I mention that my spice rack was a steal for $.50?? Be back soon! :)

It's almost that time! :)

Questions about the upcoming "faireum" class? It's pretty simple... Melissa and Karen's blog has all the answers! Check out the site at www.cottageoftheseasons.blogspot.com... they have such a beautiful shop, are so much fun to be around and have lots and lots of perfect decor for your home and garden. Classes are held at the same time, same place each month and there is a $20.00 fee that includes everything you'll need to create your own treasure. Bringing something (or a few different things) small and sentimental of your own to incorporate in your piece is always encouraged~ make it personal! :) We like that! No matter what we might do in class, your projects can be further embellished and personalized at home. These things take time... you know. More is more? There's no right or wrong when it comes to the artwork that you love? Do what you will, we just get you started with the basics. Have a ball!

Glitter party!

Oh, the glitter! My vintage silver glass tinsel is from my parents... a gift that really screams my name! How did they know that I would love this soooo much? hehe A mini -collage of "my favorite things" (this is our next class on the First Monday in August, by the way!) is of course, glittered! I use glitter on just about everything that I create and found objects around the house are so much more appealing to me if I add a bit of sparkle here and there! :)

My bride and grooms, I've gotten into collecting these... and have picked them up for next to nothing. The glass jar is my idea of a photo frame. Inside of it isa picture Cory's handsome grandfather.

Next, I have the cutest little figurine! Even though this was broken in three places and missing flower petals, I couldn't resist her for five cents. She needed a good home. I embellished the broken areas with roses that I made a few years ago, added pearls, glitter, etc. and a seashell! Hopefully, you can't tell that she was an imperfect castoff! :) Good as new! (in my eyes, even better)...

More "junk" around the house!

My china cabinet... filled with treasured finds from all over, the vintage lace vest hanging on the door, $.50- I've had this for years, my milkglass bowl/cakestand was $1.50 and the beaded iris flower resting at it's base was $.10! My antique chalkboard was $1.00 then I added the word "love" hung from vintage Christmas candle holder clip-ons! I made the paper party hat in front of the chalkboard and also, the framed flowers... I found this cute little frame and just glued artifical roses inside. I couldn't resist including my waterglobe collection! I really don't think I've paid more than one dollar for any of these! I can usually pick them up for a dime a dozen! :) Shall I post some more?

...And my $.50 (for all) set of plastic retro dishes!

This one... ahhh! I found this enormous painting for $4.00 at our local thrift shop. It hangs above our fireplace and the colors are just gorgeous, what a talented soul must have created this!

Peek at my "junk"...

Okay, here we go... $.50 pastel blue birdcage (one of my favorite finds in the world- now filled with moss and birdies!), $1.00 child's pink striped lawn chair (I've tried to fit, NO way!), angel on the mantle $.50- the angel is actually paper mache! Ready for some more? :)

Searching for all that glitters!

I'm not exactly sure what creation(s) I'll post for the big "glitter party". I could just show off some random picture of myself, I guess, because my kids are always saying, "Mom, you've got glitter on your forehead." or "Mom, why is your eyebrow sparkling?" I'll admit, I get pretty messy up in my art room, but I really don't mind that kind of creative mess at all. Most of the time, I'm covered in paint, glitter and glue... there's nothing unusual about that. SO, finding just the right picture of something is going to be a challenge! A fantastic challenge that I can't wait to tackle. I've actually been doing something a bit different lately. Ok, I know this may come as a shock, because it is quite dangerous, but I've been making my own glitter. How, you may ask? With a collection of broken vintage Christmas ornaments and a hammer. That's all I'll say. Oh, and 2 words... protective eyewear. YIKES!!! Anyway, The little prince picture that I posted a few days ago actually has some of that homemade glitter below his feet! Now that you know, you can really tell by the "chunks"- can't you? Hmmm, what will I use this glitter on next? Until next time, Hugs!

News flash...

Just wanted to introduce everyone to my hubby's new venture that he's been working on developing for the past six months, he's been in the job placement business for 15 years. Cory has teamed up with a couple of professionals within his industry to establish a company hoping to help people get back to work. Finally, it's up and running- so once again, please keep them in mind if you or anybody else is looking for a career change! I've been told, that if this goes well, I can quit my real job and concentrate on my ART and blogging 100% off the time... hehehe!!! :) (and to my fellow co-workers, don't worry :)) Send anyone that you know who is currently looking for a job or just wanting to change jobs go to www.levelhire.com. Thank you!

Just a peek at one of those special requests...

Made especially for: The Duggar family!! (some of my biggest fans~and I truly thank you for that!) One of three, well, then again it could be one of four... you decide. :) I have some great pictures of your lovely family to post but I'm having trouble transferring them from my email to the blog! Eeek! Can't wait for you to see the finished projects- hopefully, you'll be pleased with the outcome. Hope to see you real soon! Hugs!

The little prince!

I've been working on some special-request projects and I just couldn't resist making this one also while I had my supplies handy. Simple and to the point, this "prince" turned out to be so handsome... He needs a good home, so he'll be going to Cottage of the Seasons next week, along with a few others.
Sooo happy to announce that I'll be having a bit more free time on my hands this summer- Hurrah!!! I'm hoping to really get in gear and participate in some local art shows or festivals. Now I just need to do some research and find out what's going on around the area. (if there even are any...) If I do find something and can actually commit to participating, I'll let you know when and where. Here's to hoping that I can locate a summer spectacular!

Oh, such cute vintage greetings!

Hey, take a looksie...here's just a peek at some of the treasures found last week at the local thrift store... $1.oo for the whole lot, which by the way, included about 50 cards along with various sheets of vintage wrapping paper! Aren't they just too much fun? The beautiful illustrations, the pastel colors, the vintage glitter, oh my! What to do with these yummy cuties... what to do! They are additions to an already large and growing collection but don't worry, I'll put them to fantastic use- I promise. :)

Happy Birthday, Brendan! xox

Our handsome son turned 20 today!!! Where has the time gone? It seems like just yesterday they (both, our son and our beautiful daughter) were so very tiny and small. You know, signing a birthday card for them has to be one of the most difficult tasks for me. Really, how can a mother ever express in words how much she loves her children? That's just an impossible task for me. I'm not a very good writer, period. It's always a stuggle- trying to put my thoughts on paper, and is there really such a word to describe the deepest love for a child? If there is, I can't think of one. Anyway, we had a wonderful evening together! Shopping and dinner. It was so nice getting together and just running around, out of town for a little while. What a nice day... we hope that it was wonderful for you as well. Love you! xox

"Faireums"

Monday, July 6th, please join us for our next class... We'll be creating fairy terrariums; or as I like to call them, "faireums". Artificial mosses and greenery will be provided along with a fairy of your choice and a set of wings. (The jars in which the terrariums will be made will also be provided) Come and create a mystical display, chat with fellow artists, and enjoy small refreshments. Can't wait to see you there!
**Note: feel free to bring your own additions to make your habitat even more special!!!
